Adam Ogilvie murdered Olive Michele Nixon 57 in Regents Park, London on 6 November 1946 but was not caught until a decade later.
He confessed ten years later and was tried in 1956. However, he recanted the confession saying that he did it to get back at his wife. He said 'I made it to prove my innocence to my wife - to get her back. I pretended to her I did the killing and told her I would murder her, too, if she didnt stop quarreling with me. I thought if I was aquitted she would come back' He added that he found the details from a stranger.
However, the jury didn't believe him and he was sentenced to death but reprieved.
In June 1948 he had been convicted of hitting a Torquay woman on the head with a brick.
